Brush Fire Burns 25+ Acres Near Perris
Dozens of firefighters were sent to the scene Monday.
LAKE PERRIS, CA — Firefighters Monday are investigating the cause of a brush fire that broke out just south of Lake Perris and blackened about 26 acres before fire crews got it largely contained.
The non-injury blaze, which was not threatening homes or other structures, was reported at 1:50 p.m. along Foothill Avenue, just south of Orange Avenue, east of the Perris city limits, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
"Firefighters are on scene of approximately seven acres of light grass, burning at a moderate rate of spread on a steep slope," crews said when the blaze was first reported.

In total, 13 engine crews and two inmate hand crews, numbering about 80 personnel, deployed to the location, immediately summoning a Cal Fire water- dropping helicopter to make runs on the brusher, which burned into rugged terrain.
Within 90 minutes, the blaze was declared 75 percent contained, with full containment anticipated before nightfall.
