LAKE ELSINORE, CA — One person died after their vehicle crashed down into a storm drain or wash near Lake Mathews on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the intersection of Gavilan and Cajalco roads, just east of Lake Mathews, around 12:47 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the Riverside County Fire Department/CalFire.

The driver was pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived, the spokesperson told Patch.
