Elsinore Skydiver Misses Mark, Lands In National Forest

The parachutist was reported down about 4:55 p.m. Wednesday in the area of South Main Divide Road and Wildomar Truck Trail.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A skydiver strayed off course during a drop over Lake Elsinore Wednesday and came down on a hillside in the Cleveland National Forest, but he was not injured.

The parachutist, whose identity was not released, was reported down about 4:55 p.m. in the area of South Main Divide Road and Wildomar Truck Trail, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Crews were unable to immediately access the remote area where the man landed, and a Cal Fire helicopter was summoned to ferry paramedics to the location, according to reports from the scene.

The victim was found about 5:20 p.m., walking down a hillside unharmed. He was airlifted to a spot at the foot of the federal preserve, where fire personnel were staging.

It was unclear how the parachutist, who reportedly departed with a group from Skydive Elsinore, ended up drifting into the forest.
