LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A Lake Elsinore woman rushed her children to safety during a shooting incident that injured four people at Canyon RV Park in Yorba Linda Sunday.

Three men were hospitalized after the incident, including the suspect, and one other victim was injured during the attack, according to Patch reports.

Orange County Sheriff's Department stated that the individuals involved knew each other and that the incident evolved from a disagreement earlier in the day at the park.

Andrea Montano of Lake Elsinore was at the park with her family and friends for an annual Volkswagen meetup. The event was slated as a VW Campout, with a Mardi Gras area for parties. It was a family-friendly environment, organizers say, which Montano described.

"On Sunday, there was a birthday party for a 9-year-old," she told reporters after the incident. During the event, while her daughter played on the ropes with about 30 other kids, gunshots rang out. She said, "Someone screamed for everyone to 'get down!'"

"I heard the shots right away, and of course you're looking to see where they're coming from," she told KTLA reporters at the scene. "I told my daughter to get in the RV."

There, they waited for emergency responders to arrive.

Shortly afterwards, OC Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the Canyon RV Park at the Featherly Regional Park on East Santa Ana Canyon Road to find three victims, including the suspect, who were taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the department. Another person was treated at the scene.

Officials said they believe all the individuals knew each other, and a dispute from a prior day led to the shooting.
