Injured Hiker Hoisted To Safety In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A hiker who experienced a medical emergency was rescued Tuesday via helicopter in Lake Elsinore, though after being pulled to safety, the patient refused further medical care, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The hoist rescue was performed at about 1:43 p.m. in a remote hilly area north of the city's Canyon Hills Sports Park. The helicopter was requested due to the hiker's location, according to the fire department.

"After performing a hoist rescue, the hiker was delivered to firefighter/paramedics on the ground for evaluation," the department reported. "The hiker was evaluated and refused further medical care."

It's not clear what led to the medical emergency.

The National Weather Service is warning of excessive heat this week. As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the NWS reported the temperature was 102 degrees in Lake Elsinore.
