Lake Elsinore Teen Captured After Firing On Group: RSO

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A 17-year-old boy was arrested this week in Lake Elsinore on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The incident began at about 3 p.m. Sunday when deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of W. Heald Avenue.

Several people told deputies they were targeted by a shooter, though no one was wounded.

Gang task force investigators collected evidence and identified the suspect as the Lake Elsinore teen, the sheriff's department reported.

A search for him culminated at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when investigators spotted him in a vehicle near Lake Elsinore's Ellis and Franklin streets.

The teen led the law enforcement officers on a chase and, at one point, tossed a rifle before stopping, according to the sheriff's department.

The rifle was recovered by investigators and the teen, whose identity was not released due to age, was taken into custody.

After the arrest, a search warrant was served at a Lake Elsinore residence where further evidence was recovered, according to the sheriff's department.

The teen was booked into Juvenile Hall. In addition to attempted murder, he was also booked on suspicion of felony evading and various weapon-related charges, the sheriff's department reported.
