Pedestrian Stepped Into Traffic Before Being Fatally Hit: RSO

PERRIS, CA — Details about last week's fatal Perris crash involving a pedestrian were released Tuesday.

The deadly incident occurred around 8:17 p.m. on May 31 at the intersection of N. Perris Boulevard and Avocado Avenue.

When Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived at the scene, they found the driver involved in the wreck and an unresponsive pedestrian lying on the road with major injuries, according to the agency.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead. The victim's identity was not released.

The driver cooperated with the investigation.

"Preliminary findings revealed the pedestrian stepped into the roadway and attempted to cross N. Perris Boulevard when the involved vehicle collided with the pedestrian in the southbound lanes,' the sheriff's department reported.

The agency said it's unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol were crash factors. The investigation is ongoing.

N. Perris Boulevard between Avocado Avenue and Orange Avenue was temporarily closed to process the scene and collect evidence.
