US Forest Service Prescribed Burn Canceled After Torrential Rainstorm

Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters were slated to assist the U.S. Forest Service with a prescribed burn in Temescal Valley Tuesday.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department shared that their plan to assist with a prescribed burn in the Cleveland National Forest was canceled Tuesday due to recent heavy rains causing equipment access issues.

The operation, intended to clear dead and excess vegetation to reduce wildfire risk, was to take place north of Temescal Valley.

The rains made the operation no longer feasible due to "equipment access issues," according to a department statement.

Officials said the controlled burn would be attempted again in the future.

The total acreage intended for the operation was not specified.
