28-Year-Old Intentionally Hit And Killed By Driver After Argument In Long Beach, Police Say

A man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run, police say.

LONG BEACH, CA — A driver accused of fatally striking a 28-year-old man in the roadway after an argument has been arrested, Long Beach police announced Sunday

Isai Solis, 28, of Lynwood, was arrested and booked into jail on a suspicion of murder Sunday in connection with the death of Samuel Ocegueda, police said.

Officers arrived at the 1700 block of Newport Avenue for a traffic collision just before 2 a.m. Sunday and found an unconscious man, later identified as Ocegueda, in the roadway, police said.

Officers helped Ocegueda, then Long Beach Fire Department rescuers took over caring for him, police said.

Ocegueda died from his injuries on scene, according to police.

Homicide detectives started an investigation and learned Ocegueda had argued with a man before the collision, police said.

After their verbal argument, police said Ocegueda crossed Newport Avenue, where a driver intentionally hit Ocegueda with his car and fled, according to police.

An investigation led detectives to identify Solis as a suspect, police said.

Solis is being held on $2 million bail, police said, adding that detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
