LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Animal Control recently found eight puppies that tested positive for canine parvovirus in a large, plastic storage bin at a public park.

According to Long Beach Animal Care Services, Animal Control officers received a call about the group of abandoned puppies and brought them back to the shelter. Animal Care Services tested the puppies for any illnesses and found all eight of them had parvo.

Parvo is a highly contagious disease that attacks white blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract of dogs. For puppies, parvo can be deadly because it can damage the dog's heart muscles.
