Body Found In Fire Along San Gabriel River

A woman's body was found after a brush fire was extinguished along the San Gabriel River, authorities said.

LONG BEACH, CA — Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in a fire along the San Gabriel River on the border of Long Beach and Seal Beach.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to an assist call from the Long Beach Fire Department at about 4:24 a.m. on Sunday. Officers arrived in the area of 2nd Street and the San Gabriel River at the scene of a brush fire.

After the fire department extinguished the fire, authorities discovered a woman's body. Due to the nature of the incident, homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate.

"At this time, the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Detectives are working to determine the identity of any suspect(s) involved," LBPD said in a statement.

The woman's identity was withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
