DUI Checkpoint Scheduled For Friday In Long Beach

The Long Beach Police Department will be holding a DUI checkpoint on Dec. 20.

LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Police Department announced they would be holding a DUI checkpoint on Friday in the East Division area.

According to a statement from LBPD, the locations are based on data trends that show where impaired driving-related crashes happen.

The East Division is the largest patrol division of the police department and includes about 46 percent of the city. The area includes the Long Beach Airport, Long Beach State University, Belmont Shore and a number of historic neighborhoods and parks.

The checkpoint will be from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Commander Jeremy Boshnack said in a statement. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Impaired driving doesn't just include alcohol, some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, other illegal drugs and marijuana can also land someone a DUI.

First-time DUI charges can cost an average of $13,500 in fines, and drivers could have their licenses suspended if convicted.
