🗳️ November Election Poll!
Beginning October 6, and continuing through October 10, every registered voter is mailed a ‘Vote By Mail’ ballot. How are you planning to vote this November? Please let us know! So far, 16.7% plan to vote in person on election day, 71.4% will be voting by mail, 7.1% intend to vote early in person, and 4.8% plan to sit this one out.


📰 Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

1) The LBPD took a few guns off the streets. On Monday, they arrested a 27-year-old man “in the area of 19th Street and Cherry Avenue.” He was found to be a “felon in possession of a firearm.” On Tuesday, they arrested a 24-year-old man “in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.” In his car, they “discovered a stolen firearm, narcotics and a large sum of currency.” (LBPD)

2) Have you driven past the Burnett Neighborhood Library at 560 East Hill Street lately? Mural Artist Thao Huynh French selected this venue for their current Long Beach Walls presentation, “adorning its exterior with a colorful floral mural.” Another artist, Jocelyn Tsaih, selected the Bret Harte Neighborhood Library at 1595 West Willow Street for their artistry. 3) There were four reported shootings on Friday and Saturday. They took place in “the 100 block of Ellis Street,” where police found two male victims. Another shooting was in “the 100 block of West 52nd Street,” where an argument resulted in a no-hit shooting. Next, officers went to “the 700 block of Daisy Avenue,” where they found a male victim. Finally, there was a shooting on “the 1100 block of Ridgewood Street,” where someone took shots at a car and a residence. (Police Blotter)

4) On Thursday, developers released their plans for DTLB’s City Place redevelopment. They involve the “former Walmart site on the southwest corner of Long Beach Boulevard and East Sixth Street” and the retail setup that is “currently home to GameStop, Fashion Island and a T-Mobile store.” The 6th Street parcel will become “a 269-unit residential development and pedestrian paseo at its northern end and a mixed-use building at its southern end that will include 359 residential units and 19,000 square feet of commercial space.” The other parcel “will transform into a mixed-use building with 272 units and 20,000 square feet of commercial space.” There is no timeline yet for the project. 5) Mark your calendars! The Historical Society of Long Beach will host its 26th annual historical cemetery tour. Scheduled for October 29 at 9 a.m., this family-friendly event “features graveside presentations by actors portraying the life of the person lying at rest. Period-appropriate costuming is provided by the Long Beach Playhouse. Each year, the program features new stories of people who shaped the city, because everyone has a story worth telling.” (Historical Society of LB)
