1 Dead, 32 Injured After Tour Bus Rear-Ends SUV On LA County Freeway

The SUV was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived at the scene of the crash, which led to the hospitalization of 32 people.

LOS ANGELES, CA — One person was killed and dozens of others were injured when an SUV crashed into a tour bus and caught fire on the 60 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley over the weekend, according to authorities.

The crash occurred on the westbound freeway at the Hacienda Boulevard offramp in Hacienda Heights at around 5 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Nissan SUV was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived; the SUV's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus rear-ended the SUV, which was stopped in a travel lane on the freeway, ABC 7 reported.

There were 63 people aboard the bus during the crash. Two were critically injured and 32 people in total were transported to local hospitals for treatment of various injuries, ABC 7 reported.

The bus rear-ended the SUV and then veered to the right, moving across all westbound lanes before hitting a guardrail, accordion to ABC 7.

The bus was heading from Koreatown to the Morongo area, ABC 7 reported.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a man was lying near the right shoulder of the westbound freeway.

The westbound freeway was fully closed for a few hours after the crash, but some lanes had reopened by 8:30 a.m. and the Sigalert was completely canceled as of 10:20 a.m.
