Bomb Squad Responds To 'Suspicious Device' Found In SGV, Major Road Closed: Report

A bomb squad responded to a "suspicious device" found by police, according to a report.

EL MONTE, CA — A bomb squad was called to an El Monte shopping center after police found a "suspicious device" inside a car during a traffic stop, KTLA reported.

Valley Boulevard remained closed as of 5:20 p.m. between roughly Garvey and Durfee avenues.

The incident began when El Monte police and California Highway Patrol officers stopped a red Volkswagen along Valley Boulevard at around 3:15 p.m. Police found a "suspicious device" inside the car, KTLA reported.

A nearby shopping center was evacuated and roads were closed as the bomb squad worked to determine if the device posed a threat.

The device was removed from the car by a robot and the driver was detained, according to the station.
