💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts!
Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
- There was a commuter bus crash Monday morning “in the 5600 block of West Imperial Highway.” It appears that the bus “clipped a truck” and overturned. There were more than 12 injured people. (LA Daily News/paywall)
- You’ve known for about a year that the Taix French Restaurant on Sunset, historic landmark or not, will be demolished to make room for apartments. Because it would be a “6-story (67-foot) mixed-use residential building with a total of 166 residential units (Nine studio, 120 one-bedroom, 33 two-bedroom units and 4 three-bedroom units) and 13,000 square feet of commercial uses, the project will set aside 24 units for very-low income households.” The developer is now asking the City Council to declare it “statutorily exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act.” (The Eastersider LA, LA City)
- LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell intends to prevent gentrification “in South LA along Slauson Avenue.” New L.A. Metro train lines cause property values to skyrocket, and we learned on Monday that the Metro will use a “land-banking plan” when constructing its Rail to Rail project. “Some community members are concerned about what that investment will do to their ability to afford rent in their community,” Mitchell said. In North Hollywood, B Line construction “set off a commercial and residential boom” for those able to pay more in rent and goods. (USA News News)
- What was going on at Angel Stadium? The Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, but that’s not the news. There were “eight ejections,” a player flipping off the fans, and a second-inning mass brawl. "Look, you play eight games in a matter of a week against the same team, things like this happen," Angels manager Phil Nevin said. (CNN)
- The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) is looking to replace the equestrian portion of the modern pentathlon in the Summer Olympics. Taking its place could be the Ninja-Warrior-style obstacle course, we learned on Monday. If approved, the L.A. Olympics could be the first to offer medals for this changed event.
