🌱 Crenshaw Left Turn Ticketing Begins + Protester Pleads Guilty

Cameras are in place to catch drivers near train crossings on Crenshaw. Also, spray-painting graffiti on the courthouse’s wall wasn’t a good idea. Finally, permanent residents can now apply for several government jobs that were previously only open to citizens.

The kids are going back to school soon. Should schools still take COVID precautions? Please let me know your thoughts! As of right now, 38.5% say the kids should just go back to school, 26% say that kids should wear masks, 32.7% want there to be distancing and sanitizing, while 2.9% prefer distance learning for the kids.

  1. If you travel along Crenshaw Boulevard, know that the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is watching for motorists breaking left-hand turn rules. The enforcement went live on Monday, “with the aid of cameras at several train crossings.” Fines begin at $100 “plus penalties and assessments.” “Traffic enforcement comes after an 11-month period where the LASD issued warning letters in lieu of fines.” (Spectrum New 1)
  2. A 24-year-old woman was to plead guilty on Mondayfor spray-painting 'BACON GETS FRIED,' with the last word underlined, on the outside front wall of the courthouse during the July 25, 2020” protests in the wake of the George Floyd killing. The class-A misdemeanor may carry “a term of imprisonment of 30 days, followed by a year's supervised release” as well as restitution in the amount of $8,250. (Patch)
  3. You no longer have to be a United States citizen to compete for a variety of government jobs. That said, “the U.S. citizen requirement will remain in effect for applicants for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department jobs or any county-appointed positions for peace officers.” (Fox)
  4.   • A West Grove neighbor sees a cat hanging out on Orlando between 1st and 3rd. A collar found near it may belong to it. Friendly, put out food and water, which it ate. Doesn’t seem like it’s been out on the streets for very long. Is it yours? (Nextdoor)
