Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- Why did traffic back up to DTLA and Cahuenga Boulevard? On Tuesday morning, at around 3 a.m., there was a water main break in Hollywood that affected the 101 Freeway. “Details about the water main break were not immediately available. Early morning drivers encountered significant flooding, sending a spray of water into the air as they traveled through the area.” (NBC)
- LADOT released its Reseda Boulevard Complete Streets Project quarter update. “To date, the city has completed 100,000 square feet of sidewalk repair, 12,000 feet of gutter repair, and constructed 46 curb ramps and 11 accessible loading zones for the project.” You can see completed bus boarding islands at Ingomar, Chase and Strathern streets. Over the summer, anticipate sidewalk closures on Reseda as “crews will be working to upgrade traffic signals.” (LADOT)
- You can own a piece of music history. We learned on Tuesday that the property at 8736 Nye Road, which was Johnny Cash’s 1961 home, is on the market. “The five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath, 4500-square-foot home rests on almost six acres of land in the mountains, with plenty of wood paneling and details to match the rustic setting,” and can be yours for $1,795,000. (NBC)
- Liz Cambage has ended her affiliation with the Los Angeles Sparks. The team announced on Tuesday that it had “agreed to a 'contract divorce' with the 30-year-old center, just 25 games into her Sparks tenure.” Before the Sparks, she played for the Las Vegas Aces. As to the reason for her leaving, insiders describe “chemistry issues.” (Yahoo!Sports)
- Mark your calendars! The LAPD’s Wilshire Station will co-host a National Night Out on August 2 in Poinsettia Park. There will be burgers, hot dogs, exhibits, music and more. This particular event springs out of a community partnership with Melrose Action. (LAPD)
