Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. Update on the Griffith Park Death: We learned on Wednesday that the body found Tuesday afternoon was that of a woman. “Authorities said they believe the victim was someone who visited the park regularly and was possibly a transient person.” Detectives suggested death occurred due to “self-immolation.” (New York Post)
  2. Update on the City Hall Disturbance: The LAPD released a statement regarding the need for law enforcement to clear City Hall during a council meeting. On August 2, “approximately 100 unruly audience attendees” required intervention. On Tuesday, “approximately 120 public members” attended. Three security personnel were injured. One suspect was detained. (LAPD)
  3. When officers were called to a home in the 8100 block of Willow Glen Road around 2:25 a.m. on Wednesday, they learned that would-be home invasion robbers were sent fleeing after “someone inside the residence fired shots at (the) group of people.” They escaped in a white Toyota Corolla. One of the suspects may have a gunshot wound. (Patch)
  4. Inflation is on everyone’s mind, but it looks like the L.A. area is doing better than some others. A Wednesday report evaluating 23 metropolitan statistical areas found Los Angeles to be in 17th place. Consumer price index changes over the last couple of months changed 0.90% but were up 7.70% when compared to a year ago. California's areas ranked lower than L.A. are San Diego and San Francisco. Ranked higher was Riverside. (WalletHub)
  5. Mark your calendars! The pink signage advertising the arrival of Parisian bistro Mr. T has been up for a couple of years. However, the eatery will finally open on August 16 at 953 North Sycamore Avenue. "The idea is street culture. We play hip-hop from ‘80s and ‘90s at the Mr. T in Paris. Sycamore is very industrial, so we get inspired by what’s happening on the street," the restaurateur explained. (Eater LA)
