📰 Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
1) The LAPD needs your help finding a hit-and-run driver in a “royal blue Mini Cooper with a sunroof.” We learned Wednesday that the crime occurred on August 14 at 3rd and Flower streets. The car slammed into a moped stopped at a red light, lingered for a moment, and then drove away. Bystanders came to the injured party’s help. Drop a dime if you know the driver, who may be a “man in his 40s with black hair.” There’s a $25,000 reward. The number to call is “213-833-3713 or via email at 39761@lapd.online.” (NBC)
2) On Monday, the LAFD was called to the 10300 block of Zelzah Avenue. A traffic collision resulted in a sheared fire hydrant that was flooding the streets and intersections. Fire officials were able to “stem the flow of water” before utility officials arrived. (LAFD)
3) Thieves are targeting cars parked in and around Griffith Park. We learned on Tuesday that they “have been targeting vehicles in the area, especially rentals.” Criminals reason that with rentals, “there's a greater likelihood that there will be money, credit cards, IDs, possibly passports, and/or valuables.” As of today, the PD has received 121 reports of thefts from Griffith Park. (Spectrum News 1)
4) The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council is fed up with the “challenges facing pedestrians, cyclists and motorists as they navigate through the junction of Glendale Boulevard, Fletcher Drive and Silver Ridge Avenue.” We learned on Wednesday that the council has addressed City Council members Mitch O’Farell and Nithya Raman to follow its suggestions for “critical mobility improvements.” (The Eastsider LA)
5) On Wednesday, Angelenos unofficially observed Kobe Day. Part of the celebration was the unveiling of a stunningly lifelike mural off Hope and 12th Street. If you’re a fan of the Lakers star, you owe it to yourself to check it out! (MekahloNBCLA)
