💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 22.6% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 17.7% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 38.7% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 21% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.

Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. The LAFD dealt with a burning trailer that threatened nearby vegetation to catch on fire, too. It happened on Monday evening in the 10700 block of Bartee Avenue. There were no injuries, and firefighters prevented a larger brush fire from starting. (LAFD)
  2. A couple of weeks ago, the City Council voted for the creation of nine “physical spaces focused on environmental, social and economic healing in historically marginalized communities.” These will be Peace & Healing Centers operated by the Civil + Human Rights and Equity (LA Civil Rights) Department in partnership with community organizations. These spaces are to provide opportunities for “upward mobility, community peace building, and breaking cycles of violence.” Look for them in the “Arleta-Pacoima, Boyle Heights, Mission Hills-Panorama City-North Hills, Skid Row,  South Los Angeles, Southeast Los Angeles, West Adams – Baldwin Village – Leimert Park, Westlake, and Wilmington-Harbor Gateway” communities. (LA Sentinel)
  3. A 38-year-old man “was released Thursday on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court July 27.” He is alleged to have struck a 13-year-old bicyclist with a 2019 gray Toyota Tundra and then reportedly kidnapped the child by pretending to be a police officer. A fast-thinking bystander called the LAPD. Officers located the boy in the truck with two men “near Sepulveda Boulevard and Tupper Street.” (Patch)
  4. A Wednesday morning die-in protest involving fake blood resulted in four arrests. Organizers wanted to “represent the women who will die due to the Supreme Court ruling overturning the legal right to abortion.” The PD arrested them “for failure to disperse and trespassing.” (LA Mag)
  5. We’re number 16! At least when it comes to being among the best cities for recreation. At the top is Las Vegas, while Ford Wayne, Indiana is at the bottom. We got marked down for having some of the highest movie costs but the fewest tennis courts per capita. The CA cities that beat us were San Diego (6), San Francisco (11), and Sacramento (15). Are you a Los Angeles resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
