📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Have you noticed an “uptick in human trafficking and prostitution near schools, daycares and residential properties along Santa Monica Boulevard and Western Avenue in East Hollywood?” Councilman Mitch O'Farrell has, and on Thursday the City Council put aside $100,000 to address the issue. Critics fear that the money will “further criminalize sex work.” However, proponents explain that the funds will “help victims of human trafficking.” (ABC)

2) A driver involved in a car chase Thursday morning was taken into custody. If you were on the 91 Freeway or later on the 5, you may have seen it. “The chase continued on the 55 Freeway before the crash at Balboa Boulevard and 26th Street in Newport Beach.” (NBC)

3) There’s scuttlebutt that LAX is getting a Chicken + Beer restaurant. If you left your who’s who in the culinary world booklet in your other jacket, the restaurant is “named after Ludacris’ 2003 studio album” and owned by the rapper. The initial location at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta has been successful. While there is no opening date yet, we learned late last month that it will go into LAX’s Terminal 3. “A recent liquor license application suggests the restaurant is coming sooner than later.” (What Now L.A.)

4) Did you know that the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) lends more than books? We learned on Wednesday that out of the 70 branches throughout the city, library cardholders can also borrow ukuleles “for up to three weeks.” Besides that, there are “more than 100 tools,” seeds, and citizenship take-home-kits. (KCRW)

5) Mark your calendars! Saturday is the annual Mid-Autumn Festival, which is always a big deal in Chinatown. Already, “Los Angeles’s Asian bakeries are cranking out mooncakes to meet demand from both longtime celebrants and those new to the tradition.” While several bakeries are putting their own spins on the treat, authentic mooncakes “are traditionally filled with seeds, nuts, dried fruits and preserved meats with salted egg yolks in the center.” (Eater L.A.)
