📰 Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Today we remember Marsha Hunt, who died on Wednesday in Sherman Oaks at the age of 104. She was a promising actress when she came to the attention “of the House Un-American Activities Committee.” “In June 1950, she was listed in Red Channels, the right-wing pamphlet that fingered scores of actors, directors, screenwriters and others for being sympathetic to “subversive” causes.” She “was never interested in communism,” but “was shocked at the behavior of my government and its mistreatment of my industry.” Besides that, she is known for her humanitarian work, which earned the moniker of being a “planet patriot.” (Hollywood Reporter)

2) Are you one of the Los Angeles residents affected “by power outages caused by wind and rain from Tropical Storm Kay?” We learned on Saturday morning that the “estimated time for (DWP) crews to respond to an outage is 12 to 24 hours from when it began.” (CBS)

3) There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that “the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 12” in DTLA. The bad news is that there will be “road closures starting as early as 6 a.m. in the area of LA Live.” (LADOT)

4) The 2022 AIDS Walk Los Angeles is scheduled for October 16 at West Hollywood Park at 10 a.m. “Participants of the annual fundraiser will make their way north on San Vicente Boulevard and head east onto Santa Monica Boulevard, at La Cienega Boulevard.” (WeHo Times)

5) The L.A. Fire Department will host a live, online 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony today. It begins at 9 a.m. “While plans remain for future ceremonies that welcome in-person public attendance, the 2022” ceremony is virtual. (LAFD)
