1. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a rollover car accident on the 5 Freeway Saturday morning at 9:49 a.m. An adult male, who was trapped, needed help exiting the vehicle and was transported in critical condition. A second person, an adult female from a different vehicle, didn’t want medical attention. (LAFD)
2. Another French bulldog was stolen. On Wednesday night, two men and a getaway driver in a minivan snatched the pup in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood. The owners are worried; “the problem is with the people buying these dogs. If the dog doesn't have any papers, don't buy it and that will stop that,” they say. (ABC)
3. United Airlines flight 839 left from the Los Angeles International Airport on Friday with a target destination of Sydney. However, a “mechanical issue mid-flight” resulted in a diversion to Pago Pago, American Samoa. United Airlines sent another plane to assist customers in completing their travel plans to Australia — but not in time to celebrate the new year. (Simple Flying)
4. Officials worry about an increase in COVID, flu and RSV cases after the holidays. We learned on Friday that they “ask that everyone wear a mask for at least the first 10 days when returning to work and school after their winter holiday break.” (Patch)
5. How is the fundraiser for Constellation Coffee going? Located at 2472 Glendale Boulevard, the small business suffered a break-in November 30. Subsequently, a customer set up an online fundraiser to help Kevin Kim pay for the lost merchandise and shattered front-door glass. As of Saturday, the fundraiser collected $2,225 from 54 donors.
