The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

Hey, everybody; today is National Hug Holiday Day, which was put on the calendar by the Hugs for Health Foundation. It's me, Sylvia, your host of the Los Angeles Daily — here to explain everything you need to know about what's happening locally.
Nobody was hurt when the LAFD arrived at a laundry room fire. Also, there are suspensions going around the Angels and Mariners. Finally, the first defendant in the case involving bribes to a City Council member has been found guilty.

💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 42.9% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 28.6% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, and another 28.6% want to build a desalination plant at the coast.
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- Early on Tuesday morning, the LAFD evacuated about 20 of the 90 residents of the nursing home at 22125 W. Roscoe Boulevard. There was a fire in the laundry room that caused “heavy black smoke.” Damage to the facility was minor, the fire was put out quickly and the evacuated residents returned to their rooms. (NBC)
- Here's an update on the Angels/Mariners brawl: Tuesday, we talked about the brawl taking place at Sunday’s game. On Monday evening, Major League Baseball handed down suspensions. “Los Angeles Angels interim manager Phil Nevin was suspended 10 games and Seattle Mariners outfielder Jesse Winker received a seven-game ban.” An additional ten players received suspensions ranging from two to five games. (ESPN)
- Here's an update on the City Hall bribery scandal: Earlier, we talked about the bribes allegedly received by former Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar to “grease the wheels for the approval of a downtown condominium project.” The first defendant in the trial, a real estate developer, went to trial and was convicted on Monday of “bribery, honest services fraud and obstruction.” He will be sentenced on September 19 for making a “$500,000 bribe.” (Spectrum News 1)
- If you’re taking your dog to a local dog park, look for Ice Cream Pups. We learned on Tuesday that this vegan doggie ice cream is the brainchild of a Los Angeles entrepreneur. You can find it at “local dog parks and several Los Angeles-area stores.” (Spectrum News 1)
- Mark your calendars! Tickets for “Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience” went on sale Tuesday, with the opening date of the exhibit being moved up to September 16. “The exhibition will run through January and will mark the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s burial chamber.” So, head to the Magic Box LA to immerse yourself in a reproduction of the burial chamber.
