📰 2022 News Poll 📍
There was a lot of bad news in 2022. However, there was some great news, too. Which was your favorite good news story of 2022? So far, 50% like the collaboration to end plastic pollution, while 33% favor the news that Ethiopia’s civil war is over. The final 16.7% like news of a new malaria vaccine.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
- Who fired shots at the Summit Motel at 5005 South La Brea Avenue on Wednesday morning? A man and woman were injured. Although there were no arrests, law enforcement “described the suspect as a man in a hooded sweatshirt.” (Patch)
- A hiker needed rescuing in the Hollywood Hills. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Rescuers went to 2000 North Fuller Avenue, where they found a man “approximately 200' down an embankment.” Using Air Ops for a hoist, first responders were able to bring the hiker to safety. He didn’t want medical care. (LAFD)
- Body Builders Gym at 2516 Hyperion Avenue will close for good on January 17. Unable to “negotiate favorable terms” that could have kept the business there, the gym intends to relocate, after operating for almost 45 years at that location. The company also announced that it is looking for investors. As noted, moving efforts “have been met with hurdles such as lack of parking, improper zoning for gym use, and most recently, the building we fell in love with is out of our budget.” (Body Builders Gym, 2)
- We learned on Wednesday that Erewhon at 7660 Beverly Boulevard is “one of the most expensive grocery stores in America.” Not surprisingly, it attracts a customer base that includes celebrities and socialites. It has a Whole Foods vibe but also introduces you to products you might have never heard of. A case in point is sea moss gel. And while you can find other unusual goods like camel milk, be prepared to spend big. A recent shopping experiment with a $100 budget didn’t buy much, with $5 cans of beans and $12 tortillas. (Insider)
- Remember P-22 at a celebration of life on February 4 at the Greek Theatre. Doors open at 11 a.m. Even though it’ll be free to get in, you must register for a ticket. “Ticketing info coming soon.” The event will likely last two hours and is expected to include musical performances, dancing, food, “and so much more.” (LA Greek Theatre)
