💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 20.8% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 25% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 29.2% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 25% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
- A homeless encampment caught fire on Friday. It was located “near the Soto Road off ramp of the connector road of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway and the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway near East Los Angeles.” (Patch)
- The City Council voted on Friday to “rename a private driveway adjacent to the Pacific Resident Theatre in Venice in honor of the late character actor Orson Bean.” City Councilman Mike Bonin was the driving force behind the motion that would change the name of Pisani Place. (KFI)
- Residents around the Port of LA have had enough of “trucking companies (that) are idling in the street, creating traffic and noise and air quality problems.” In response, the City Council passed an emergency ordinance on Wednesday “to temporarily ban new trucking operations in some neighborhoods near the port of LA in Wilmington and Harbor City.” The ordinance will automatically expire in 45 days. (NBC)
- On Tuesday, Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer hinted at a return of the indoor mask mandate. An increase in COVID-19 transmissions may place the county back in the high virus transmission category. “At the current rate of increase, the county will hit the ‘high’ category by July 19, Ferrer said.” It is interesting to note that the film and TV productions industry has more stringent masking rules, which were already triggered. (Patch, Deadline)
- Beginning Friday, the minimum hourly wage in the city of Los Angeles increased to $16.04 and in unincorporated areas of L.A. County it was bumped up to $15.96.” Employers are required to post a bulletin of the new minimum wage in place where workers can easily see it. "We fought to raise the minimum wage because hard work should always be met with the dignity, respect and opportunity that fair pay brings," said Mayor Eric Garcetti. (ABC)
