- A freeway shooting left one man dead on Thursday. The shooting occurred Wednesday evening at around 7 p.m. on the 710 “at the Firestone Boulevard exit . . . in the South Gate area.” If you have any information, please call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. (Patch)
- On Thursday morning, a vacant commercial building caught fire “at 460 West Manchester Avenue in Vermont Vista.” Firefighters arrived before 5 a.m., and traffic was rerouted “from the area at the intersection of Figueroa and Manchester.” Three firefighters sustained injuries but will be okay. (NBC)
- In the Hancock Park area, “a driver crashed an SUV into a parked RV.” It was the end of a high-speed chase Wednesday evening, a little after 9:30 p.m. “The pursuit started in the area of Bronson Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard and went through the 101 Freeway.” The driver ran away. (ABC)
- The National Weather Service went on record Wednesday, warning beachgoers to “stay off rock walls and jetties, and keep an eye on the ocean. Inexperienced swimmers and surfers should remain onshore.” High surf continues to cause “very strong rip and longshore currents.” (NWS L.A.)
- The opening of the Sixth Street bridge is not bringing out the best in some folks. We have already talked about the folks doing donuts. However, on Thursday, we had a report of “a barber giving somebody a haircut in the middle of the bridge between lanes of oncoming traffic in both directions.” In related news, the driver who caused a crash Monday after doing burnouts the other day turned himself in. He was charged with “Exhibition of Speed, Hit and Run Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving, and Lying to Police Officers.” (ABC, KTLA)
