Beer SigAlert: Big Rig Pileup Sends Kegs, Thousands Of Cans Across Freeway

Thousands of beer cans spilled onto the freeway early Tuesday morning, causing hours of delays.

AZUSA, CA — A crash involving several big rigs caused thousands of cans of beer and several kegs to be strewn across the 210 Freeway Tuesday morning, prompting a multi-hour delay Tuesday for early-morning commuters.

The crash was reported around 3 a.m. on the westbound 210 Freeway near Vernon Avenue, KTLA reported.

Video aired by KTLA showed a big rig had split in half, scattering cans and kegs into traffic lanes. Several of the vessels were hit by oncoming traffic.

Video aired by Fox 11 shows the aftermath of the crash showing thousands of spilled cans strewn across the freeway.

Crews worked to clean up the alcoholic beverage from the freeway lanes, KABC 7 reported.

A Sigalert issued at 3:32 a.m. closing the three and four lanes as well as the Vernon Avenue on-ramp of the westbound freeway, was extended at 6:08 am., the CHP said.

The two right lanes of the freeway remained closed as of 9 a.m. and traffic was backed up to the 57 Freeway. Motorists were warned to expect delays of up to an hour.

The Sigalert was canceled at around 10 a.m.
