New Year’s Resolutions Poll! 🎶
According to Forbes, only 8% of people making New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them. Even so, the experts suggest making resolutions because they encourage intentionality, optimism, and a positive effect on others. So, what are your resolutions for 2023? So far, 40% intend to meet new people or interact more with current friends. Another 20% each plan to travel or experience something new; live healthier, while the other group wants to embrace change.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) arrived at a one-story commercial building in the 300 block of South Berendo Street to put out a fire Friday morning around 10:45 a.m. At the time of the fire, the store, which sells discount merchandise, was open. “No injuries were reported in the incident. There was no immediate word on a possible cause of the fire.” (KTLA)
  2. Two Starbucks closed their stores on Friday, so workers could participate in a nationwide strike. If you tried to get your cup of fancy Joe at the 138 South Central Avenue or 3241 Figueroa Street location, baristas want you to know that Starbucks “has unfairly retaliated against unionized workers and failed to negotiate in good faith to secure initial contracts.” On its part, Starbucks “has asked the National Labor Administration for a temporary suspension of all US union elections.” (Local Today)
  3. Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez from the 13th District is hitting the ground running. At his first weekly meeting, he requested “a list of bus and bike infrastructure projects that could be implemented within 18 months.” Concurrently, he asked for information on “the 10 most dangerous locations for pedestrians in his district.” “The motion was seconded by Councilman Bob Blumenfield, who chairs the council's Public Works Committee. The item will head to the council's Transportation Committee.” District 13 includes Andrews Square, Thai Town, Verdugo Village, Westlake, and Wilshire Center. (Patch)
  4. Courteney Cox sold her two-bedroom condo on the 25th floor of the Sierra Towers at 9255 Doheny Road. As outlined on Friday, the actor bought the property in 2011 for $2.1 million, and sold it last week for $4.5 million. Insider scuttlebutt suggests that “L.A. socialite Angelique Soave was the buyer.” Soave now reportedly owns three units at the Sierra Towers. (Mansion Global)
  5. Spend some time at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). We learned on Friday that extended holiday hours on December 21 and 28 give you an alternative to shopping or just staying home. Best of all, the 5905 Wilshire Boulevard museum will “be open during normal hours on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.” (LACMA)
