📰 Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
1) On Tuesday afternoon, six men thought they could do a quick smash-and-grab at the store “in the 600 block of Hill Street in downtown’s Jewelry District.” However, employees fought back and sent the men running. Their getaway cars were “a newer Mercedes-Benz with tinted windows, a BMW with a sunroof and a white Kia.” (KTLA)
2) Do you remember when a fire derailed the completion of the El Nuevo Amanecer apartments at 1st and Rowan streets? We learned on Wednesday that, after two years, “construction has begun on rebuilding the project that will provide 61 affordable apartments for low-income families and homeless veterans.” Right now, the projected opening day will be October 2023. (The Eastsider LA)
3) On Wednesday, around 2:16 a.m., the LAFD responded to 603 South Mariposa Avenue in Koreatown. A two-story commercial structure had caught on fire. “LAFD Arson Investigators are responding.” (LAFD)
4) In April, the City Council voted to “keep RVs from being parked along LA’s streets.” On Wednesday, we learned that the city can’t enforce the ordinance because “there's no way to enforce the code because there's no place to tow the RVs.” You may remember that LA Councilmember Nithya Raman didn’t vote for this ordinance for this very reason. Right now, RVs from the Cahuenga Pass are parking “along Forest Lawn Drive outside the Warner Bros. Studios.” (NBC)
5) Mark your calendars! The Primavera Sound Los Angeles is scheduled for September 16 through 18 at Los Angeles State Historical Park. Primavera Sound is testing the waters for the kind of festival that has brought out audiences in Spain since 2001. Four stages welcome acts such as Lorde, Darkside, Current Joys and Nine Inch Nails.
