Watch: Four-Year-Old Lost In Forest Overnight is Rescued

After 22 hours of searching, crews found the little boy nestled under a tree, hungry, exhausted and ready to jump into his parents' arms.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A search and rescue team found a four-year-old boy who had been lost in the remote Sierra Nevada woods for 22 hours safely nestled under a tree near Huntington Lake Friday.

Hungry, scared, and exhausted, the boy was lucky to be alive after spending the night alone at high elevation with dangerous wildlife and steep terrain, according to authorities.

Christian Ramirez went missing shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rancheria Campground in Fresno County, according to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.

After searching for him for an hour, his parents called authorities for help and a search and rescue effort was assembled. County, state, ground and arial teams searched for him as night fell and temperatures dropped. They could find no trace of Ramirez.

Then on Friday morning, rescue crews stumbled across the frightened child.

"After missing for 22 hours, search and rescue team members found Christian Ramirez nestled under a tree near Huntington Lake," the sheriff's office announced. "He was hungry and exhausted, but otherwise in good health. We got him a sandwich and then carried him out to be reunited with Mom and Dad."
