Thanksgiving Day, even with Black Friday specials creeping in, is usually easy to figure out. But can you check out a book?

- Banks - Thursday, and many on Friday
- Los Altos City Hall - Thursday and Friday
- Los Altos Hills Town Hall - Thursday and Friday
- County Offices - Thursday and Friday
- Los Altos Library and Woodland Library - Thursday and Friday
- Mission Trails Waste Systems (Los Altos) - No Thursday pickup; Pickup resumes Friday. Friday pickup day is delayed to Saturday.
- Greenwaste Recovery Systems (Los Altos Hills) - No Thursday pickup; Pickup resumes Friday. Friday pickup day is delayed to Saturday.

- Downtown Ice San Jose: Downtown Ice is open 2 to midnight, so be ready to glide (or slide) under the stars and lighted palm trees during special Thanksgiving hours. Market Street, across from Plaza de Cesar Chavez; Tickets $13-15. Downtown Ice is open daily through Jan 29, 2012.
