LOS GATOS, CA — While many Santa Clara County residents will be enjoying the launch of their long, play-filled weekend, the fire agency tasked with protecting them will be hard at work.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department is testing the "AlertSCC" system on Friday at 10 a.m. and using the opportunity to remind residents to take steps to be fire safe. This means fires that may be ignited by barbecues, yard work machines, fire pits and driving habits.

So residents: Don't be alarmed if you get a text message declaring the test underway. It will read: "This is a test. Have a fire safe weekend. Find wildfire prep info at sccfd.org/rsg."
