Community Meeting Set for Broad Beach Biofiltration Project

The project may also include habitat restoration of some of the slopes above Broad Beach Road next to Pacific Coast Highway.

A community workshop is set for next month on a project that aims to head off water runoff from nine storm drain inlets along Broad Beach Road in Malibu.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 7 in the Multipurpose Room at Malibu City Hall.

"The proposed Broad Beach Biofiltration Project aims to prevent dry weather flows and treat feasible volumes of wet-weather flows that might otherwise discharge to the Area of Special Biological Significance (ASBS)," according to the project's description

The project aims to divert dry-weather and stormwater runoff from nine storm drain inlets along a one-mile stretch of Broad Beach Road into a biofiltration system.

The project may also include habitat restoration of some of the slopes above Broad Beach Road next to Pacific Coast Highway.

The project is funded by a $2.25 million grant from the State Water Resources Control Board with contributions from the city of Malibu.
