MALIBU, CA — Now that Christmas is over, it's time to clean up from the holiday revelry. Fortunately, Malibu residents with real Christmas trees won't have to go through much trouble to properly dispose of them.

The city gives trees a second life by turning them into mulch. You can get your tree picked up curbside or drop it off at a designated location. In order to recycle trees, residents should remove everything from the tree, including tinsel, lights, ornaments and stands.

For curbside recycling, cut your tree and place the pieces in your green bin.

Whole trees can be dropped off at 23575 Civic Center Way (the Chili Cook-off lot) from Dec. 27-Jan. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lot will be closed Dec. 29-Jan. 1.

Residents in the Malibu and Santa Monica Mountains waste disposal districts who have curbside trash service from Waste Management or Universal Waste Systems can dispose of their trees as part of their regular service.
