'Princess Bride' Star Bitten By Rattlesnake In Malibu: Reports

Actor Cary Elwes was airlifted to the hospital Saturday after being bitten by a rattlesnake in his backyard, sources say.

MALIBU, CA — “Princess Bride” actor Cary Elwes was reportedly bitten by a rattlesnake Saturday while gardening in his backyard in Malibu, TMZ reported.

The bite was reportedly so serious that Elwes, 59, needed to be airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Sources told TMZ that people around Elwes were worried that the bite was a life-threatening injury. The Los Angeles County Fire Department would not confirm Elwes’ identity, but reports sending paramedics to the 23000 block of Pacific Coast Highway on reports of a snake bite, and airlifting a person to a medical facility in unknown condition, according to City News Service.

Elwes is reportedly on track to make a full recovery, according to TMZ. He is an English actor best known for leading roles in 1989’s “The Princess Bride,” Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and “Saw.” On the set of “Princess Bride,” Elwes was knocked out by accident during a scene, and also broke his toe, according to TMZ.

His next project is Zack Snyder’s sci-fi movie “Rebel Moon,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Rattlesnake bites can cause pain and swelling, according to UCI Health. After being bitten, there is not much that can be done other than getting to the hospital as quickly as possible to suck out the venom. It can take four to six hours before the venom from the bite becomes potentially fatal.
