MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — More than three years after the high-profile robbery of an upscale Manhattan Beach jewelry store, four men have been charged, police announced Thursday.

The men were “formally charged in connection with the June 24, 2022, smash-and-grab robbery at Pasha Fine Jewelry,” Manhattan Beach police announced.

Oscar Anthony Carranza, 23; Ziairre Tamel Veals, 26; Kewon Rayshawn Maxwell, 23; and Deshawn Jones, 27, are each charged with second-degree robbery, according to a felony complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in May.

Mayor David Lesser praised the police department’s work, saying it highlights the city's "commitment to bringing those who commit crimes in Manhattan Beach to justice."

On June 24, 2022, police said they responded to a report of a smash-and-grab robbery just before 7 p.m.

“Multiple suspects entered the jewelry store, used hammers to break display cases, and fled the store with miscellaneous merchandise,” police said.

According to police, at least three of the suspects looked to be armed with handguns, but “no shots were fired."

Three suspects entered in awaiting cars, which fled the area down an alley, police said.

“This was not just a crime against a person or a business. This was a crime against our entire community,” then-Mayor Steve Napolitano said. “An armed robbery in broad daylight in our downtown could have resulted in serious injury and death. To those who did it, please know MBPD is devoting every resource to catch, prosecute, and jail you.”

The four men’s recent charging follows “an extensive, multi-year investigation,” police said.

After the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against the men earlier this year, arrest warrants were issued, according to police.

The final suspect turned himself in to authorities recently, "marking a significant milestone in the case," police said, adding that his arrest stemmed from “the lead investigator’s thorough investigative work and commitment to justice.”

Police said they are continuing to work with the district attorney’s office during an ongoing investigation.
