After 1 Day Of No COVID-19 Increase, Manhattan Beach Goes Up By 5
The Department of Public Health in Los Angeles County says there has been "underreporting" with the State electronic lab system for 2 weeks.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach now has 271 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, as of Monday, August 3rd 8 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The 271 cases span a timeframe that began in early March. MB's number jumped by 5 after holding steady for one day at 266. Holding steady for one day, however, may not be a true indicator of the numbers since LA County yesterday noted there has been underreporting due to problems with the State electronic lab reporting system for the past two weeks. Once the data reporting issues are fixed, the number of cases is expected to increase.
LA County, which is working to obtain all the underreported data and come up with a method to prevent the issue from arising again, says hospitalization information has not been impacted by the underreporting. Public Health is reporting 1,757 confirmed cases currently hospitalized with 31% of those individuals in the ICU. Daily hospitalizations were reported at more than 2,000 patients last week. The County is still testing positive at a 10% rate.
On July 29, Manhattan Beach had 258 cases of COVID-19. On July 25th, the number for the city was 249. On July 23rd, the city registered 238 cases; on July 20, 228 cases; July 10, 194 cases; June 27, 121, and on May 20, just before the County reopen0d the city had 74 cases. The time period the county says has been underreported is from July 26 to the August 3. Deaths in the city from the coronavirus remain at 4.
