Manhattan Beach Man Determined To Run For City Council In 2020
Manhattan Beach resident Chaz Flemmings has pulled papers to become a City Council candidate. Now, he's moving closer to his goal to run.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Chaz Flemmings is 29 years old and not 22, as was initially reported in this article. MB Patch apologizes for the error.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Potential Manhattan Beach City Council candidate Chaz Flemmings has been hitting the campaign trail to gather the requisite resident signatures to officially move his candidacy forward. Today [Sunday, July 19], he held two signature-gathering, meet-and-sign events to further his cause.
Flemmings, 29-years-old, is also running to be the Governor of California in 2022. And he is a serious candidate on either front — the state or the City of Manhattan Beach. He left his job as a hospital supervisor in March 2020 to prepare for his run for governor. In May of this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, he hosted and provided a gift giveaway for 600 healthcare workers, he notes.

The young potential candidate held two events today to gather the needed signatures and meet people in the community. From 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 7-8 p.m., he hosted a Sunrise and Sunset session at Bruce's Beach. Ready to answer questions, Flemmings also asked "that we keep our social distancing, wear our mask, bring your pens, and stay 6-feet apart (I have a loud voice). I will also have hand sanitizer for those who need it. I will be in the middle of the basketball court with my Scooter. I can’t wait to meet you, speak with you, and gain your support for this November 3rd election."
Flemmings told Manhattan Beach Patch, "For Manhattan Beach I will be a highly indefatigable advocate for our city and a new generation of topics that we can make a positive and innovative change as one of the leading Beach Cities! I support a better technological infrastructure, refined public services, cleaner streets and beaches. I'll protect the police and FD!"

Said Flemmings, "Manhattan Beach has one of the strongest, well trained, empathetic, and responsive police departments in the Beach Cities and Los Angeles County. We must work with our police department ... other communities to learn and work with other community leaders to lead a change where everyone feels welcomed by the citizens and public services."
Flemmings is the latest potential city council candidate to pull papers, doing so on July 15. Five potential candidates, among them incumbents Mayor Richard Montgomery and council member Steve Napolitano, pulled papers on the first day they were available, July 13. Former MB Mayor Mark Burton and residents Joe Franklin and Grettel Fournell also pulled papers from the City Clerk's office that day.
