Mira Costa Girl Golfers Capture State Title
The team accomplishes what no team before it has achieved: A CIF state championship.

On a golf course in Pebble Beach, CA, the Mira Costa Girls Golf team scored a first, winning the state CIF championship on Tuesday.
Andrea Lee, Marni Murez, and Ashley Kim led the team as they edged second-place Walnut (394) with a 391 team score, according to the Daily Breeze. Dougherty Valley finished in third at 402, Torrey Pines in fourth at 412, and Carondelet was fifth at 414.
“The course was very challenging, very fast greens and a lot of high scores,” Mira Costa coach Tom Cox said of the par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course. “The girls battled through it like they always do, and played very well at the end.”

The team’s victory, indeed, was a sweet note to a season in which players nagged former teammate and senior Andrea Lee to return, according to the Beach Reporter. Lee, who won the state title individually as a sophomore, took last year off from high school golf to focus on national junior golf, according to the Daily Breeze.
Said the Stanford-bound Lee, “This is what I came back for. My teammates persuaded me to come back. They said this is our last chance and we could do something big. They lured me back and I’m really glad they did. This means so much to us to come here, all this way and pull this out.”
