Motorist Killed on South Bay Freeway

A man was struck by a truck Monday on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Lawndale and pronounced dead at the scene, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man, in his 30s, may have been fatally injured after getting out of a disabled vehicle shortly before 11 a.m. at Hawthorne Boulevard, according to preliminary reports from the scene.

Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.

Two northbound lanes were closed while an investigation was conducted.
