Protest Heads Into Manhattan Beach On Rosecrans Avenue
Manhattan Beach police are on the scene of a reported march by protesters from Hawthorne on Rosecrans Avenue.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Update: Around 100 peaceful protesters took to city streets in Hawthorne, El Segundo and Manhattan Beach, gathering in Hawthorne's Del Aire Park around 2 p.m. to prepare for a peaceful protest against police brutality and racism. Protesters on Aviation Boulevard and turned right toward the ocean when they reached Rosecrans Avenue, said two participants. After walking on the El Segundo side of Rosecrans to Sepulveda Boulevard, marchers decided to head back east on Rosecrans Avenue toward Hawthorne. Originally, protesters had planned to turn north on Sepulveda Boulevard/Pacific Coast Highway and go through El Segundo.
As of 6:39 p.m., Sgt. Kevin Keus of the Hawthorne Police Department said 40 protesters remained in front of the Hawthorne Police Station at 12501 South Hawthorne Boulevard. He said all helicopters that had been surveilling the protest march were no longer in the air.
Originally on MB Patch: Protesters are reportedly marching on Rosecrans Avenue from the city of Hawthorne into Manhattan Beach and heading toward Sepulveda Boulevard, Manhattan Beach Patch has learned. A call to Manhattan Beach police headquarters confirmed that MBPD officers are in the field assessing the situation. Appearances seem to indicate the marchers have turned around and are headed back into Hawthorne on Rosecrans Avenue. Earlier reports indicated they were marching toward Sepulveda Boulevard.
