MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Slay Italian Kitchen is now open in Manhattan Beach. The restaurant, a work of local and restaurant owner David Slay, was supposed to open about two months ago, but finally opened Tuesday, February 4.

Slay took over Darren's and built Slay Steak + Fish House in February last year. Slay Italian Kitchen is in the spot previously occupied by Jimmy's Kouzina, which closed after 35 years.

"Our cooking style is rustic Italian featuring stone fired pizza, roasts and veggies," Slay said in a press release. "A lot of our vegetables will be grown at our vineyard along with several of our Slay wines."

"We are very excited to bring our brand of fresh, authentic, and innovative Italian cuisine to Manhattan Beach," Slay said. "This area is our home, and we want to create yet another venue where people can feel welcomed as they enjoy fantastic food."

Slay recruited veteran chef Don Dickman to develop the menu, Eater LA reported.

The late Jonathan Gold described Dickman's style as "hearty, masculine cooking," and Slay told Eater LA they'll emphasize a rotating menu with fresh and dried pastas, meats, vegetables and wines from his own Santa Barbara County farm, Slay Estate and Vineyard.

Slay Italian Kitchen is at 1001 Manhattan Ave #5429, Manhattan Beach, CA — just a few blocks away from Slay Steak + Fish House.
