Smell Something? Say Something, Manhattan Beach! Here's How!
Last weekend's odor in Manhattan Beach came from the Chevron El Segundo Refinery. Here's how to view online fenceline monitoring at Chevron.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Last weekend, some 30-40 Manhattan Beach residents contacted the South Coast Air Quality Management District due to an odor permeating several neighborhoods. The odor gave many people headaches and one family lost its appetite and couldn't eat breakfast. Others experienced additional symptoms associated with the chemical that was released from the Chevron El Segundo Refinery.
SCAQMD inspectors determined that the odors were caused by the release of hydrogen sulfide during the transfer of petroleum naphtha, a product of refining crude oil, to a storage tank, according to a news release. The air quality management district issued a Notice of Violation for Creating a Public Nuisance to Chevron as a result.
Here's where to see Chevron’s air monitoring network information online: https://elsegundo1180.com/data....
