Vehicle Burglaries Rise In Manhattan Beach, Windows Smashed

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Six vehicle burglaries and two residential burglaries mark this week's crime report from the Manhattan Beach Police Department. Other crimes in the report for February 1-7 include one auto theft and a number of thefts.

Three of the vehicle burglaries involved smashed windows and one involved a door lock punch. The remaining two vehicle burglaries did not mention how the burglars broke in. The window smashed occurred on February 1 and 2 in the following blocks:

• 1300 block of Parkview Avenue
• 1600 block of 11th Street
• 1400 block of North Peck Avenue

The other two vehicle burglaries took place on February 6 and in the 2300 block of Walnut Avenue and the 2900 block of North Poinsettia Avenue. The Walnut Avenue vehicle burglary included electronics, clubs and other items; the Poinsettia Avenue vehicle burglary included household appliances and other items.

The residential burglary occurred in the 500 block of Manhattan Avenue when a garage was left open. In the February 5 residential burglary in the 4200 block of The Strand, a suspect was arrested.

The auto theft took place in the 1700 block of Gates Avenue on February 2 when the keys were left inside the vehicle. Thefts numbered eight and happened on February 1, 2 3, 5, 6 and 7. Thefts included two catalytic converters, a wallet, a package, and shoplifting. The other three thefts involved an unlocked vehicle, a hidden key, and the arrest of a suspect.

The thefts and one arrest took place in and at the

• 3600 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard
• 2800 block of The Strand
• 2200 block of Magnolia Avenue
• 4000 block of Ocean Drive
• 4000 block of Highland Avenue
• 1400 block of 19th Street
• 1800 block of Rosecrans Avenue
• the intersection of 19th Street and Highland Avenue [this is where the arrest took place].

The Manhattan Beach Police Department reports these "Preliminary Crime Statistics," which are "subject to change and correction" as a way "to give citizens a good ballpark of crime in Manhattan Beach, but they are not official numbers."
