CHP Reports Fatal 3-Car Crash On Highway 4 In Martinez
Westbound lanes of the highway were closed early Wednesday morning as the California Highway Patrol responded to the collision.

MARTINEZ, CA — One person died in a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on state Highway 4 in Martinez, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers from the Contra Costa CHP responded shortly after 4:15 a.m. Wednesday to reports of the collision on westbound SR-4, east of Pine Street, the CHP said in a news release.
Officers determined the driver of a Ford hatchback was traveling on westbound SR-4 when they collided with the center divide east of Pine Street — causing the car to become disabled in the westbound lanes.

The driver of a Lexus SUV was traveling on westbound SR-4 and crashed into the Ford. Shortly thereafter, a Toyota SUV also collided with the disabled Ford.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:32 a.m., closing the westbound lanes, and contacted the coroner.

The driver of the Ford, who was traveling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
The drivers of the Lexus and Toyota, who were also traveling alone, were not injured.
The crash remained under investigation late Wednesday morning.
