The weather service sent out an alert warning locals attending beaches to be wary.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Locals looking to attend the beach after a break in stormy weather should be aware that the National Weather Service has issued an alert through Friday warning of large breaking waves, strong rip currents and sneaker waves.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect now through 10 p.m. on Friday as the NWS reported a large northwesterly swell will result in large breaking waves up to 22 feet, strong rip currents and sneaker waves.

"Remain out of the water, stay off of waterside infrastructure, and never turn your back on the ocean," the NWS reported.
