Marin Motorist Survives 200-Foot Plunge
A rope rescue operation pulled the motorist to safety after their vehicle went off the roadway on Panoramic Highway, authorities said.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — A motorist survived an approximately 200-foot plunge off Panoramic Highway and was pulled to safety by firefighters earlier this week, authorities said.
Fire crews at around 6:30 p.m. Monday successfully conducted a rope rescue operation after the motorist went off the roadway on Panoramic Highway, approximately one mile west of the Throckmorton Station, the Southern Marin Fire District said.

“A vehicle went off the roadway, rolled several times, and came to rest approximately 200 feet down the embankment in the Fern Creek Area,” the SMFD said in a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
“Crews implemented a rope rescue operation and within 60 minutes were able to extricate the injured patient from the car to the roadside for ground transport to a local hospital.”

Weather or intoxication are not believed to be factors in the crash, the California Highway Patrol told The Marin Independent Journal.
Panoramic Highway was closed in both directions for around an hour, the agency said.
No other injuries reported.
