Mill Valley Taps Stephen Burke For Council Vacancy
Burke was among four candidates interviewed at Wednesday's regular council meeting. He is expected to be sworn in Sept. 20.
MILL VALLEY, CA — The Mill Valley City Council last week unanimously voted to appoint Stephen Burke to fill a vacancy on the five-member council.
Burke will replace Tricia Ossa who resigned over the summer.
“We are very pleased to welcome Stephen to the City Council,” Mill Valley Mayor John McCauley said.

“His strong history of service in many different roles has demonstrated his deep knowledge of the community and commitment to Mill Valley.”

The Mill Valley resident of 20 years serves on the Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Commission, the Marin County Civil Grand Jury, and the Transportation Authority of Marin' s Citizen Oversight Committee.
He has previously served on the Mill Valley General Plan Committee, Mill Valley Traffic and Congestion Task Force and Board of the Mill Valley Tennis Club, among other civic roles.
Burke’s appointment to the council creates a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
A Special Election for the remainder of Burke’s council term will be held in June.
If his statement is any indication, expect Burke to be on the ballot next year.
“My experience with various commissions and committees has given me insight into how staff, Council, and the citizens interact and I believe I can use that experience, and my business experience, to bring people together to find common solutions,” Burke said.
